Built by Toyota as their luxury brand, the Lexus is a luxury car that demands attention from auto enthusiasts. Introduced to the world in 1989, Lexus have not only been known for their classic engineering feats and build quality, but more importantly their mechanical dependability and reliability were considered bulletproof.
Since the introduction of the Lexus LS 400 at the North American International Auto Show in 1989, the popularity amongst the general public has continued to snowball, with the car being favoured by many sub-cultures throughout the world. This can not be emphasized greater than in the cult movie Ghost Dog by Jim Jarmusch, where the star (played by Forest Whitaker) refuses to steal any car but a Lexus. Probably not the best promotion for Lexus owners, but a testament to the desire to drive a Lexus. Other examples of their appeal extend across the entertainment industry with people like Steven Spielberg, Robert De-Niro, Mel Gibson, and Harrison Ford all being Lexus fans.
Each year, most of the automotive world hangs on new announcements from Lexus, and each year Lexus never disappoint. This year, the Lexus LS 460 was awarded the 'Luxury Car of the Year' prize, as well as the 'International Car of the Year' award at the International Car of the Year Awards.
